The Program aims to rehabilitate the health and vitality of water resources in hydrographic micro-basins through planting trees on lands bordering key waterways.
SÃO PAULO - On December 11, 2009, USAID’s Program Officer Mark Mitchell and the representative for Corporate Social Responsibility, Alex Araújo met with Malu Ribeiro, Vinicius Madazio and Simone Fragonetti from the Brazilian NGO SOS Mata Atlântica, to discuss the implementation of activities and performance of the Brazil Rainforest Water Program (BRWP), which is sponsored by Coca-Cola and supported by USAID/Brazil.
The Program aims to rehabilitate the health and vitality of water resources in hydrographic micro-basins through planting trees on lands bordering key waterways.
Highlights of the outcomes of this ongoing initiative include: establishment of the program workspace office; identification of high-priority areas for restoration and reforestation; implementation of thirty workshops on water management; capacity training on reforestation-related issues, creation of jobs related to reforestation activities; mobilization and registration of 111 land owners from Piraí and São José river basins; and the implementation of the pilot project at the Payment for Environmental Services Program.
