Gerdau celebrates its 120 years of history and is awarded for another important achievement: the Hugo Wernerck award, promoted by Revista Ecológico. The award is a national reference in the evaluation of good environmental practices.
The 11th edition of the Hugo Werneck Award, entitled “Sustainability & Love of Nature”, was held yesterday (01/28), in a virtual ceremony, and addressed the theme of modern times and pandemic in allusion to the environmental collapse of the industrial revolution and disruption technology brought by artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
Gerdau, awarded in the “Best Sustainable Partner Project” category, is proud of the implementation of Gerdau Germinar, the company’s environmental program in Minas Gerais that has already carried out more than 140 thousand technical visits to the Biocentro and 13.5 thousand socio-environmental projects with schools and communities in the cities surrounding the company: Congonhas, Conselheiro Lafaiete, Itabirito, Moeda, Ouro Branco and Ouro Preto (districts of Miguel Burnier and Mota).
“We are very happy to receive this important recognition. For Gerdau, the sustainability theme is a central value that is present in all of our operational practices and relationships with communities ”, highlights Wendel Gomes, Gerdau’s Director of Mining and Raw Materials.
The sustainability bias is not only a latent theme in the Gerdau Germinar Program, but transits within Gerdau as an operational and relationship with the community practice. By completing this year 30 on a fruitful path, the Gerdau Germinar Program reaffirms its commitment to shaping a more sustainable society, benefiting 465 thousand people from the communities where the company operates.
