The GE Foundation, GE’s philanthropic organization, today announces the donation of US $ 350 thousand, equivalent to almost R $ 2 million, through its program to help the community in the fight against COVID-19, to Gerando Falcões via partnership with Grupo +Unidos.
The donation supports the emergency hunger relief initiative, which provides food assistance to families in Brazil impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The amount will benefit more than 6,600 families by offering, for two months, access to food in the Brazilian basic food basket, such as rice, beans, pasta and oil, among others. To date, Gerando Falcões has raised US $ 2.7 million of the total funding target, which is US $ 4.4 million.
“The GE Foundation is proud to work with Gerando Falcões and + Unidos to support Brazilian families facing unprecedented challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Linda Boff, president of the GE Foundation and vice president of the company.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted vulnerable communities in Brazil, reducing access to basic food for those most in need of help. We are proud to announce this support to the Brazilian population, via + Unidos for Gerando Falcões, with the aim of helping to fight hunger. The challenges are enormous and call for collective engagement. I ask everyone to join us in this cause”, said Viveka Kaitila, president of GE in Brazil.
“We could not have received better news than the announcement made by the GE Foundation to donate US $ 350,000 to fight hunger for thousands of people across Brazil. This amount, equivalent to R $ 2 million, will help us distribute basic digital baskets and reduce the suffering of families living in the favelas. I thank GE for believing in our project and for strengthening the spirit of solidarity in all of us, ”said Edu Lyra, CEO and founder of Gerando Falcões.
“The GE Foundation’s commitment to Brazil is extremely relevant and is in line with the initiatives of the + Unidos Group, which is proud of the creation of the UNA+ Fund. With this donation, we raised more than R $ 10 million during the pandemic. Our purpose is to mobilize companies and enable private investments to meet the needs of the population, which has become even more vulnerable in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic scenario ”, comments Daniel Grynberg, executive director of Grupo + Unidos.
GE and the GE Foundation are working to combat COVID-19 worldwide. The Foundation pledged to provide financial support to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, and helped deliver personal protective equipment (PPE) to health workers in the United States. In addition, it supports health systems in Southeast Asia and Africa with training, infrastructure and equipment.
