Grupo +Unidos, a social investment organization conceived by the American Embassy, launches the UNA+ Support Fund. Initially developed with the support of Bank of America and the Caterpillar Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Caterpillar Inc., the initiative has already raised R$ 5 million.
The action aims to fight against the pandemic of the new coronavirus in the less served communities, most affected by the spread of the disease COVID-19. To put its plan in place, it mobilizes private companies to be part of the Support Fund that will be managed by Grupo +Unidos and converted into donations.
Populations will be mapped by the Fund considering criteria such as official numbers of infected, mortality rate, availability of hospital beds and demographic concentration. Once the region has been chosen, social organizations with frequent action on site will be called to mediate the delivery of donatives.
With the communities mapped, needs identified and the social organizations chosen, the Fund will develop customized strategies and solutions for the region. Each plan may include the acquisition and distribution of food and hygiene items or even the donation of hospital equipment as well as testing by a specialized team.
After mapping needs, each territory may also undergo a social economic diagnosis, in which the companies partnering with the fund intend to analyze the impacts of the spread of the virus and identify urgent deficiencies. With collected data, the UNA+ Support Fund intends to develop possible more assertive social actions to be instrumented in the territories in the post-pandemic moment, helping the communities to recover from this crisis.
“To get through this situation, the industry needs more than ever to work together, looking at what people need right now. Grupo +Unidos has redirected its focus of work to meet the needs evidenced by the pandemic, but still maintains its position as articulator and advocate for a collaborative and technological future, to act in increasingly apparent social needs. This is a move that companies should start to make while planning their next steps, so we call the private sector to join the UNA+ Support Fund, which aims to raise R$ 10 million and reach about 50,000 people,” says Daniel Grynberg, Executive Director of Grupo +Unidos.
