Latin America students competing in the Intel ISEF 2010 just raised the bar again: 15 special awards and recognitions and 16 in the Grand Ceremony, with two 1st Place and two Best in Categories Awards.

The day of the Grand Awards Ceremony included two first prizes and two Best of Categories from Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Environmental Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, Microbiology to Physics and Astronomy, Engineering and Bioengineering. These students had a great performance, the awards were granted in both categories, individual and team projects, for the American Latin countries:  Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Uruguay.

All the emotion started at the night before, when 30 students from different parts of the world were there to compete for the Secret Change Agent Award, a $10,000 for the project that could create positive impact in their neighborhood and in the global society – offered by Google, one amongst the companies and entities giving special awards.

Then the announcement came: they were so impacted about the kids that they decided to choose two projects instead of one. Two of the Brazilian projects were chosen, Karoline Elis, an 18 years-old girl, with the project entitled Construction of a Continuous Flow SODIS System with PET Bottles Integrated to a” Water and Waste-Water Treatment System, and William, a 20 years-old boy from the South side of Brazil, with the project entitled Utilization of the Fungus Aspergillus niger on Wastewater Treatment II. The night continued to be a great moment for the students and more awards and recognitions summed up to fifteen given to students from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

We all have to be proud of working at Intel, the sponsor of tomorrow that helped to make it possible to the kids that are looking for a better world for all to live.
